The Topper Blade 30mm hole 320 is a strong resilient, steel, topper blade. It is designed to operate at high RPM and to withstand the wear and tear of everyday topping. The blade will suit most Irish made toppers that take a blade with a 30mm hole. It is 320mm x 75mm x 7mm blade with excellent cutting potential. It is ideal for topping even the toughest of rushes, provided your Topper and tractor are capable. It will suit Bridgeway, Belmac, Conor, Fleming, Hi-Spec and Nugent toppers.
Surprisingly topping your rushes and leaving them to die back into the ground is actually an excellent form of fertiliser as they contain up to 70% of the N, P and K value of good farmyard manure. Topping is best either very early in the season before growth starts or left late in the year when re-growth will be poor and colder weather will help stunt the rushes. Cold and frost can kill up to 40% of the rushes at these times of year. In addition cutting at this time gives your grass a boost of fertiliser to help growth for the new season, which will also help the grass reclaim area from the rushes. If you are planning on using licks or sprays on the rushes it is also advisable to top the rushes a week or two in advance so that the rushes will be growing fresh and more susceptible to absorbing the chemicals. It should be noted that research suggests that the best way to rid your land of rushes is via proper grassland management. Draining the land, testing the soil and using lime to improve the PH will increase growth rate of grass helping it reclaim area from the rushes. However ploughing and effective reseeding with a high density seed is the most effective way of ridding your land of rushes.
